Biography

Tina D’Elia is an actor, writer, acting coach, and consultant. In 2012, Tina had a successful three-week-run of her one-woman-show: The Rita Hayworth of this Generation at Shotwell Studios in San Francisco (March-April, 2012), directed by Mary Guzmán. Tina has performed excerpts from this show for: Monday Night Marsh, David Ford’s Solo Performance class, a work-in-progress at The Brava Theater (2011), and The Air Space Residency Program which performed at the National Queer Arts Festival, (NQAF, 2010). Tina’s work has also presented in the National Queer Arts Festival (2002), The Women on the Way Festival (2002), The Fresh Meat Festival (2002-2004), and The New Theater Festival, Boston, MA (1997). Theater credits include: I Use to Write on Walls, and Motherlands (The Theater Offense, “Boston Women’s Fund Award”, 1998), Living On (Lois Roach, 1992-1995). Tina has performed her one-woman-shows and performance poetry in festivals, universities, conferences, rallies, and nightclubs nationally.

 

Tina’s film/TV credits include: The Pursuit of Happyness, Knife Fight, The Mercy Man, The Mugging (Nominated Best Actress Comedic Role, 48 Hour Film Festival 2010), Groucho, and Mechanic’s Daydream (Best Stunt Award), and co-starred in the NBC TV drama, Trauma. Tina and her director/co-producer, Maria Breaux, co-wrote the narrative short film: Lucha, based on a short story written by Tina. Lucha won the Best Short Film Audience Award in the Frameline LGBT International Film Festival (2009) and later nominated for the prestigious Iris Prize Award (Cardiff, Wales).

 

Tina has worked at non-profit organizations since 1990 when she first interned at The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) (Cambridge, MA). She worked on staff at BARCC from 1992-1998. Tina worked for ten years at Community United Against Violence (CUAV) in San Francisco, CA. She serves on the Board for Fresh Meat Productions. She was the recipient of the Ollin Civil Rights Award from Instituto Familiar de La Raza in San Francisco in 2006.
